Welcome to Calm Cove Play Therapy, my name is Alice Briggs. As a qualified Play Therapist, I am registered through PTUK. I have 9 years of experience working with children and have worked therapeutically with a range of children aged between 1-17 years old who have all had differing ages, abilities and neurodiversitys. I have managed out-of-school clubs and worked therapeutically with looked after children in residential children’s homes. I have also worked across primary and secondary schools offering 1:1 talking therapy and play therapy sessions. This vast range of experience allows me to best support a child or young person using my range of experience and knowledge.
Play Therapy is a therapeutic intervention aimed at supporting children aged between 3-13 years old to help them to process life events and manage their emotions. Play therapy uses a range of creative mediums such as art, sand, movement, music and more to help children to express and communicate their feelings though play. Play therapy allows children to communicate in a variety of ways, as children can’t always find the right words to express themselves. Play therapy is a child led therapy that allows the child the freedom to lead the sessions and explore how they are feeling at their own pace using the toolkit. As a therapist, I provide a calm and supportive safe space for children to be able to do this.
Each session runs for 40/45 minutes and is child-led. The therapy room is set up the same way each week and children use the range of the toolkit to explore and play. The beauty of play therapy is it allows children to explore at their own pace and allows them to lead the session if they wish. In the room the child uses play to communicate to the therapist and the therapist creates a safe a supportive space for this to happen.
